Carp Leaping over the Dragon Gate
2024
Introduction
This one-minute non-dialogue animation retells the ancient Chinese legend of the carp leaping over the Dragon Gate. The scene is designed with two vertical layers: below, the carp swims forward through a lotus pond; above, six Dragon Gates appear with blessings for exam candidates to achieve success. The work was commissioned and produced by Guangzhou Lu Xun Memorial Hall for the special exhibition "Achieving Success in the Imperial Examination: Imperial Examination Cultural Relics from the Collection".
Concept & Philosophy
"By translating the auspicious metaphor of "carp leaping over the Dragon Gate" into a concise 3D animation, the project connects traditional examination culture, museum exhibition narratives, and contemporary digital moving-image language."
