Li Dao - The Remote Island

In the middle of a vast sea lies an island forgotten by time, renowned for its grand and mysterious architecture, built by ancient architects and artists to commemorate the mystical power of the ocean. Its most striking feature is a vast crystal dome — the Dome of the Sea — which captures the light and colour of the sea, creating an atmosphere of merging with the ocean.

"Its forms derive from impressions of medieval European architecture, showing traces of Romanesque and Byzantine building and cathedral stained glass. Structurally, religious architecture is disassembled, stretched and reassembled: a decompositional approach that emphasises breaking, layering and recomposing, valuing the individual part itself, and producing a fragmented, mysterious and uncertain stage presence."
